An inter-war production Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) No. 1 Mk III* rifle manufactured by Lithgow Small Arms Factory in 1926. This is one of an estimated 6000 rifles made by Lithgow SAF in 1926, with the post-1926 Lithgow crest as well as the 'MA Lithgow SMLE III 1926" stamped on the receiver beneath the bolt handle.
This rifle was previously a target rifle, and has a heavy barrel from Lithgow with 'MA51' stamped on it.
