- German Mauser M98 chambered in 7x57mm Mauser. Manufactured in 1937 by Mauser-Werke AG Oberndorf. This Model 98 Mauser is a Mauser-made Portuguese M/937A rifle reciever with Mauser-made Chilean Model 1935 Carbine parts, barrel, and stock.
- The Portuguese M/937A rifles were manufactured between 1937-1938 as part of an export contract for 50,000 new rifles to replace Portugal's ageing Mauser-Vergueiro rifles, and were manufactured exclusively by the Mauser-Werke plant. These rifles were practically identical to the German K98 which had already been in mass production for roughly five years, with the only difference being the M/937A retaining the original front sight used on the Mauser-Vergueiro rifles.
- The Chilean Model 1935 Carbine were manufactured in 1935 as another of Mauser's export contracts, this time for 10,000 rifles, meant to arm the relatively newly established Carabineros de Chile, a gendarmerie-style national police force. Chambered in 7x57mm Mauser, these rifles are frequently considered some of the best Mauser military rifles ever made.
- While this rifle does have the Portuguese reciever, it is aesthetically and functionally identical to a standard Model 1935 Carbine. The reciever bears the Portuguese national crest with the date '1937' on the front, as well as German Waffenamt proofmarks on the right-hand side with the serial number and the text 'Mauser-Werke A.G. Oberndorf A./N.' The rest of the rifle has markings consistent with the Model 1935, including the letters 'C.Ch' present on the floorplate, bolt, and cleaning rod and a small star on most other parts.
